SoulCyster

In the fall of 2011, I had just started graduate school and was STILL battling acne. I felt hideous and was really piling on the makeup. That new year at a new school in Virginia really made me determined to win the battle against my acne once and for all.

I found a Dermatologist with glowing reviews, made an appointment. Within 5 minutes of meeting with her she said, "Have you ever been treated for PCOS? Acne along your jaw line is usually a sign of that."

PCO- WHAT??? I had never heard of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I started firing off every question coming to my mind. My dermatologist explained my need to get checked out by an OBGYN and that my course of treatment for my acne needed to start there. Huh??? My OBGYN would help my acne, this was strange.

I left so confused, yet also hopeful that my 10 year battle with acne was soon going to be explained and resolved.

My OBGYN confirmed it, I had cysts on my ovaries and my body didn't produce enough progesterone. Now I knew the WHY of my acne and crazy menstrual cycles, but I wanted to know HOW to fix it.

My OBGYN gave me a script for birth control and called it a day. I was not happy, I didn't want to just swallow a pill everyday, I wanted to resolve this issue forever the holistic way. I wanted to banish the cysts and make sure they never came back. Easier said than done, as I soon learned.

It took five years of back and forth conversations and appointments with doctors and trial and error with drugs, birth control, diet and exercise.

Did my cysts banish forever, NOPE. Did I lose hope that I would ever find some semblance of normal with my ovaries, YES, a lot. However, I feel really GOOD about where I am at now.

I've learned what I can and can't eat to keep my insulin level in check and my immune system active, I know what skincare to use to keep my blemishes at bay, I know what exercise works for me and I finally found a wonderful OBGYN that respects my holistic approach to treatment.

If you want to know more of the nitty gritty in-depth details of what I use or do to stay ahead of my PCOS battle, drop me an email. I'd love to hear how you keep your PCOS at bay too!

I'm passionate about this fight and I know that there is light on the other side of it and a semblance of normalcy is possible.
